Burton Overy Parish Council Serving the people of Burton Overy

The Friendship Club

The Friendship Club was started in the village in the 1970's to give all residents and friends of the village an opportunity to meet and socialise over a cup of tea/coffee.

In recent years the club is kindly hosted at different homes around the village, normally on the third Thursday of each month between 10:30 and 12:30.

The Club is friendly and informal. It's a great way to get to know your fellow villagers to meet socially for a chat over coffee/biscuits and very often cake! Villagers old and new and friends of the village will always be made very welcome. There is no membership or admission charge. The Bring & Buy table and a monthly raffle raise the funds for all the club's other events. So if you can spare an hour once a month, please do drop in, we would love to see you!

If you would like more details or a lift contact Patrick on 259 2350 patrick@mcarragher

The Club urgently need new members if it is to survive!

So if you can spare an hour, please come and join us. We would love to see you and you will be made most welcome.

2019

We are sad to report the loss of two of our regular supporters:

Thelma Short died in February and her funeral was held in St Andrew's Church. Thelma had long standing Methodist Church connections and the Revd Gordon Webb, a retired Methodist Minister from Great Glen, gave the address. She had worshipped regularly in St Andrew's and she was laid to rest alongside her parents in the churchyard.

Ian Selvey-Willars passed away suddenly and his funeral was held in St Cuthbert's Church, Great Glen, where Ian had been a bell ringer. Local bellringers gathered and rang a quarter peal in his memory.

Burton Overy Friendship Club In January the Coffee morning was hosted by Jo and Julian Swain at "Bunkers Hill" in front of a roaring log fire.

The February meeting was cancelled as a mark of respect.

We had an introductory talk on arrival followed by Tea/Coffee and biscuits and were then free to explored the house, gardens and the recently opened and award winning "Below stairs" servants quarters. Many thanks to the Burton Overy village charity for the donation towards the costs.
